Bidecadal Thermal Changes in the Abyssal Ocean

چکیده
5 A dynamically consistent state estimate is used for the period 1992-2011 to describe 6 the changes in oceanic temperatures and heat content, with an emphasis on determining 7 the noise background in the abyssal (below 2000 m) depths. Interpretation requires close 8 attention to the long memory of the deep ocean, and implying that meteorological forcing of 9 decades to thousands of years ago should still be producing trend-like changes in abyssal heat 10 content. At the present time, warming is seen in the deep western Atlantic and Southern 11 Ocean, roughly consistent with those regions of the ocean expected to display the earliest 12 responses to surface disturbances. Parts of the deeper ocean, below 3600 m, show cooling. 13 Most of the variation in the abyssal Pacific Ocean is comparatively featureless, consistent 14

Using Eulerian and Lagrangian Approaches to Investigate Wind-Driven Changes in the Southern Ocean Abyssal Circulation
This study uses a global ocean eddy-permitting climate model to explore the export of abyssal water from the Southern Ocean and its sensitivity to projected twenty-first-century poleward-intensifying Southern Oceanwind stress. The abyssal flow pathways and transport are investigated using a combination of Lagrangian and Eulerian techniques. In an Eulerian format, the equatorand poleward flows w...

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...
متن کاملRecent Bottom Water Warming in the Pacific Ocean*
Decadal changes of abyssal temperature in the Pacific Ocean are analyzed using high-quality, full-depth hydrographic sections, each occupied at least twice between 1984 and 2006. The deep warming found over this time period agrees with previous analyses. The analysis presented here suggests it may have occurred after 1991, at least in the North Pacific. Mean temperature changes for the three zo...
متن کاملAn abyssal carbonate compensation depth overshoot in the aftermath of the Palaeocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum
1 The PETM represents one of the largest and most abrupt greenhouse warming events in Earth’s history. Marine and terrestrial records document a global >2.5‰ negative carbon isotope excursion (CIE; refs 1–3) coincident with global mean surface ocean warming of >4 °C (ref. 4) and geochemical and sedimentological evidence for ocean acidification5,6. Collectively, these lines of evidence suggest a...
متن کاملResponse of Southern Ocean Convection and Abyssal Overturning to Surface Buoyancy Perturbations
This study explores how buoyancy-driven modulations in the abyssal overturning circulation affect Southern Ocean temperature and salinity in an eddy-permitting ocean model. Consistent with previous studies, the modeled surface ocean south of 508S cools and freshens in response to enhanced surface freshwater fluxes. Paradoxically, upper-ocean cooling also occurs for small increases in the surfac...
